James Wans Blunt Reason Why He Didnt Include Other Heroes In Aquaman
In a post-Justice League landscape, the biggest heroes of the DCEU have finally assembled to form an iconic team. That being said, the Justice League heroes all have their own solo movies on the agenda, with Aquaman next on deck. That has left many to wonder how the film will connect to other heroes in the DCEU lore, but in a recent interview, director James Wan admitted that he opted not to include the other DC heroes in Aquaman because he wanted to keep the story clean and focus on Arthur Curry. Wan said:
I wanted to keep the story to the world of Aquaman and not have to worry about what other characters are doing in their films and how that would affect us. I just thought the simplest way was to keep it clean --- keep it simple and let it be an Aquaman story.
We have already seen Arthur Curry operate with other heroes, so it makes sense to want to focus solely on his own exploits this time around. As James Wan explained in his recent interview with EW, he wanted to keep things "clean" and distill the Aquaman story down to the simplest version of Arthur. That means moving away from guys like Batman and The Flash, which frees up on-screen real estate for characters like Mera, Vulko and Black Manta.
This is not something that other DC movies have even had to worry about in recent years. Man of Steel was the first installment in the DCEU, and many of the heroes were either in hiding or unable to help Superman during his battle against General Zod. Then there's something like Wonder Woman, which took place long before the arrival of Superman or the birth of Bruce Wayne. Aquaman is the first post-Justice League DCEU movie, so DC now has to truly contend with the questions of why other DC heroes don't pop in to lend a hand.
Of course, none of this means that we won't get some references to other DC heroes. Even if the rest of the Justice League doesn't show up, it's still entirely possible that we could hear some references to other DC icons or have Arthur drop a hint towards his teammates -- such as how Ant-Man and The Wasp referenced Captain America: Civil War without showing the other heroes. All we know for sure is that Batman won't drop by Atlantis to throw a Batarang at some bad guys.

Watch Avengers: Infinity Wars Benedict Cumberbatch Get Scared By Iron Man
This weekend's Avengers: Infinity War finally sees the Master of the Mystic Arts, Doctor Strange, joining up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes for the battle with Thanos. This film opened up the possibility for a bunch of fun new interactions, as the Avengers are exposed to the cape-clad magician for the first time. One of the team-ups we were most excited to see was Doctor Strange and Tony Stark. Only a film this big could support those two egos, and their interactions did not disappoint as they constantly butted heads. But it looks like Tony Stark will have the last laugh, as Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch was scared by someone in an Iron Man costume on The Ellen Show. Take a look:
You've got to keep composure and watch your language Doctor Strange, this is a family show. You would have thought that he would have used the Time Stone to see all possible futures to know this was coming. I don't know how much of this was staged, but Benedict Cumberbatch is of course a brilliant actor and his reaction here is quite funny. Although his defensive posture of just sitting there needs some work. He delivers a great line too afterwards as if it was Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man costume. You would think that they would have someone dressed as Thanos to scare him although it would be tough to live up to how scary the character is onscreen. So given the contentious relationship between Stark and Strange in Infinity War, Iron Man makes sense.
The set up for the scare plays right into it too as Ellen is asking Benedict Cumberbatch about what kinds of things he hasn't done that he would like to and if he'd be interested in doing a horror movie. This conversation was probably primarily to set up the Iron Man scare, but perhaps by happy accident, Ellen raised a brilliant idea. Can we please get a quality horror film with Benedict Cumberbatch in a starring role? The Oscar nominee would be fantastic in a horror film, especially in some sort of devilish role. We've seen him play a villain before and he brought a seriously menacing quality using just his voice to The Hobbit films as Smaug and the Necromancer. This may have been meant as just an easily packaged viral video, but now we have something new to add to our cinematic wishlists.
Although this was his first time in a team-up film, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange plays a very important role in Avengers: Infinity War and it will be very exciting to see how his actions here impact Avengers 4. Unfortunately we have another year to find out. In the meantime, Avengers: Infinity War is off to a strong start at the box office. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you doing here? Halloween Producer Would Love For William Shatner To Join The Franchise
Casual horror fans may not realize this, but William Shatner has had a major impact on one of the industry's longest-running stalker franchises, Halloween. How? The mask worn by The Shape, aka Michael Myers, in John Carpenter's original Halloween -- and several movies after that -- was a Shatner mask, specifically a $1.98 Capt. Kirk Star Trek mask, painted ghost white. Without Shatner, there is no Halloween. So when asked if Bill Shatner ever could show up in a Halloween movie, now that David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are bringing the series back to theaters, series producer Malek Akkad said:
We actually have one of the original impressions of Shatner in our office in L.A., so obviously we're really grateful to him, and in certain ways we've tried to reach out to him (to) maybe do an appearance? Lord know he's busy enough with Star Trek stuff...but you never know.
That would be an odd moment, to have William Shatner, potentially staring down a murderous psychopath who happens to be wearing the face of his next victim? To me, it seems like the timing for a William Shatner cameo in a Halloween movie has come and gone, no matter what producer Malek Akkad tells HalloweenMovies.com. Maybe it would have been a cute nod in the 1980s, when the series was finding its way and detouring down sequel paths that angered and confused fans of John Carpenter's original. I easily could see Shatner popping up in Halloween H2O, which came out around the time of Scream and the bulk of the meta, wink-wink horror movies that broke the proverbial fourth wall and let the audience know that everyone was in on the joke.
Today, though, Danny McBride and David Gordon Green are looking to wipe away the silliness that watered down the Halloween franchise over the years. Everything about this gritty continuation has looked mean, nasty, terrifying and way more in line with the original vision of John Carpenter. Just look at the most recent trailer, and try not to get too scared when Michael Myers drops TEETH into the stall of a filthy gas-station restroom.
It would be weird to see the one-time Capt. Kirk, and the current Priceline spokesperson, showing up in a movie of this caliber, right? I'd much rather see the producers and writers of Star Trek find a way to work William Shatner into that timeline, the way that they did with Leonard Nimoy in J.J. Abrams' reboot of the long-running series. Kirk deserves a fitting farewell for the franchise that made him a household name. That's a better fit than Halloween, which lifted Shatner's likeness, but turned Michael Myers into a monster who can stand on his own.
