Michael Douglas Wants An Ant-Man Prequel Spinoff, And Were So On Board

Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and The Wasp has officially screened for audiences, and the generally positive reaction to the Ant-Man sequel seems to prove that there's still plenty of potential for growth with this shrinking hero. That raises questions over where the Marvel Cinematic Universe could continue to evolve the Ant-Man brand, and Hank Pym actor Michael Douglas wants to see a period piece focusing on his exploits as a young man. Discussing the possibility of reprising the role again, Douglas explained:

I'd like to see him, if there's magic, we do movie magic in terms of flashbacks. How about getting Hank back to his prime age as the Original Ant-Man and kick some serious ass?

It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made consistent strides in its ability to convey different ages for the same character. Whether it's the process of making Hayley Atwell look like a geriatric Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier or making Michael Douglas looking like a young Hank Pym in the first Ant-Man, we have watched the progression of this tech do some incredible things on the big screen. Now, with the "movie magic" continuing to expand and evolve as it improves, Douglas thinks that we have reached the point at which he could do an entire Ant-Man prequel movie as a de-aged version of himself.

Of course, even Michael Douglas realizes the limitations of the technology. Continuing in his interview with Screen Rant, the actor noted that, while he will still need a stunt double to tackle the potential Ant-Man prequel, the de-aging technology makes now the perfect time to make this film a reality. Douglas continued:

I'm ready. I'm geared. I need a good stunt double. You know, I'll find him, but now you can make me look 40 years younger let's do the whole job!

Michael Douglas' remark about needing a stunt double does serve as another reminder of why this could potentially work. The Ant-Man action generally takes place with the hero's face hidden under the large mask of the high-tech suit, which means Douglas would only really need to do the dialogue scenes if he couldn't pull off any major action sequences. It's the same reason Robert Downey Jr. can continue to perform as Tony Stark ten years after the debut of Iron Man; the advanced suit does a lot of work for the filmmakers.

Only time will tell if the folks at Marvel Studios ever deiced to rewind the clock and go all in on a full-blown, Hank Pym-oriented Ant-Man prequel film. It would stand out as a bold choice for Phase 4, but until we learn more about that particular slate of movies, make sure to watch out for Ant-Man and The Wasp when the highly-anticipated sequel debuts in theaters on July 6.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Man Who Peed On People In A Movie Theater

Some pretty terrible things have taken place in movie theaters over the years. However, it's possible that nothing quite as disgusting has ever taken place as a man urinating on other patrons during a film. That's exactly what happened recently in a town in Illinois when a 20-year-old man started urinating on the people in front of him in the theater during a late-night screening. This has resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for the man on a pair of felony charges.

The incident took place at the AMC Showplace in New Lennox, Illinois. On January 14, Samuel Vigil allegedly drove from his home in Joliet to the town of New Lennox to catch a movie. At some point during the film, Vigil apparently stood up and began to urinate on the people in front of him in the theater, specifically, two women, according to New Lennox Patch. Police were called to the scene, where Vigil was arrested before being released on bond.

However, the story is not quite over yet, because the State's Attorney has now filed a pair of aggravated battery charges against Samuel Vigil for the incident. He now has 30 days to surrender himself to authorities.

When we hear about incidents where crimes take place inside movie theaters between patrons, it's frequently over something inconsequential, like somebody talking during a movie, that gets out of hand. In this case, if there was any sort of inciting incident that led to the urination, it's not public knowledge. I'm not sure if it would be better or worse to know if something happened that led this person to decide that peeing on people was an appropriate response, or if he just decided it would be something worth doing independently. It's not clear if the alleged battery was aimed specifically at the women or just at whoever happened to be seated in front of him.

It's also not mentioned what movie was being seen at the time. While January isn't usually a popular month for movies, nothing really came out for which this was an appropriate response. Of course, maybe it was the opposite problem. Perhaps the film was so good that the gentlemen couldn't tear himself away to go use a toilet and, in the dark, didn't realize there were people in front of him. Nevermind, that doesn't actually make any of this any better.

Unfortunately, it's worth saying that at least this was the worst thing that happened. We've seen altercations in movie theaters all too often turn violent, so at least nobody was seriously hurt, even if they had to deal with a fairly disgusting incident.





Turns out, certain white male directors can fail upwards for only so long, and what we have been discovering of late is that the ceiling for directors who lack the requisite talent is apparently Star Wars movies. It's not always that lack of talent catches up to directors; sometimes, simply being an asshole can get you fired.

Warning: SPOILERS for Black Panther are ahead!

Even though Avengers: Infinity War is currently taking the world by storm, let's not forget that it hasn't even been a full three months since another Marvel movie came out that performed impressively both critically and commercially. One of Black Panther's most praised elements was Michael B. Jordan's Erik Stevens, a.k.a. Killmonger, who has been heralded as one of the MCU's best villains. Unlike his cousin T'Challa, Erik, born N'Jadaka, was raised in Oakland, California by his father N'Jobu, who was killed by his brother, T'Chaka, when he betrayed the Wakandan kingdom. But some of you may have been wondering while watching Black Panther where Killmonger's mother was. Thanks to the movie's commentary track, we've learned that she was in prison during the prologue and later died. Director Ryan Coogler explained:

The idea was when you see those guys talking over the paperwork in the beginning of the film, they're talking about a way to break her out of jail. The idea was they never got her out, and she passed away in prison, so Killmonger didn't come up with a mom either.

In case you need a Black Panther refresher, Prince N'Jobu, one of King T'Chaka's War Dogs, was sent to the United States as an undercover agent. While there, he fell in love with an American woman, and together they had N'Jadaka, a.k.a. Erik. As time passed, N'Jobu became convinced that Wakanda's isolationist policies were harming the country, so he began planning a revolution and hired Ulysses Klaue to steal some vibranium. This resulted in T'Chaka coming to America to confront N'Jobu over his treachery, and the encounter ended with N'Jobu's death. Erik wasn't in the apartment when his father was killed, but now that we've learned that his mother was also still in prison at the time, that means he became an orphan, making his backstory even more tragic.

Losing both his mother and father, as well as never inheriting his royal Wakandan birthright, led to Erik growing up filled with rage, desperate for revenge and determined to carry out his father's vision. As an adult, he became the skilled black-ops soldier known as Killmonger, and his plans finally came to fruition in Black Panther's present day story, where he defeated T'Challa in combat and temporarily seized the Wakandan throne. T'Challa eventually stopped Killmonger, but rather than be healed and spend the rest of his days in prison, Killmonger decided to die a free man. While his goals were nefarious, what made Killmonger such a compelling villain is that his motivations were understandable, and this added fact about his mother makes him slightly more sympathetic.

Black Panther will be available for digital download starting May 8, and the Blu-ray/DVD copies will hit shelves on May 15. But if you're dying to see T'Challa and some of his allies now on the big screen, you can buy a ticket for Avengers: Infinity War, which is about to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide.




The Black Panther home video release comes equipped with plenty of behind-the-scenes content and featurettes that reveal much more about the film, its characters, its story, and how it all came together after being stuck in development hell for 24 years.
