Rian Johnson Praises 'Freakin Unbelievable' Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (And Its Delicious Green Milk)

The Force flowing through me right now is envy of everyone who gets to go to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge any time in the next [checks bank balance] decade or so. Disneyland's new land opens May 31, with no reservations required starting June 24. Several lucky people have already checked the place out, including Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. He tweeted some reactions to the experience, and made special note of a certain tasty beverage:

Ah yes, Luke Skywalker would approve.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is going to sell both the blue milk Luke drank in the original 1977 Star Wars and the green milk Luke drank after milking a Thala-Siren in The Last Jedi. Here's what's in the milk they sell, if you're curious. Apparently the milk will cost $7.99, which does sound like a lot but it's nothing compared to everything else.

Rian Johnson also tweeted some answers to fans' questions, whether serious or just silly. One fan asked about another The Last Jedi addition:

What's a 2019 Star Wars attraction without Porgs? It would be like leaving out the Ewoks. (Don't you dare say anything bad about Ewoks. I grew up loving them and they will forever stay beloved.)

FYI, Disney Parks Blog posted that it will be hosting a #DisneyParksLIVE stream covering Disneyland's dedication ceremony of Star Wars: Galaxys Edge on May 29 at 8:20 p.m. PDT/11:20 p.m. EDT. That's when you can get a good look at this new land, at least from afar.

Here's everything we know so far about Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. We're still waiting on official word about Rian Johnson's own next Star Wars movies. Disney said the Game of Thrones showrunners are doing the next movie after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but that doesn't mean Johnson isn't still working on his own previously announced trilogy. Just keep yourself hydrated with expensive milk and stay tuned for updates.

Wait, Fox Is Developing A Silver Surfer Movie?

By  at August 30, 2020  , , ,  No comments
Wait, Fox Is Developing A Silver Surfer Movie?

One of these days, Disney and Fox might complete a merger that will have massive ramifications on the entertainment landscape. Until that day happens, Fox seems content -- on the film side -- to keep developing the properties that fall under their umbrella, developing a strong stable of superhero properties and trying to compete with Marvel Studios. Though it's possible that the X-Men and the Fantastic Four may one day belong to the MCU, Fox for now seems to be moving ahead with multiple comic-book movies, and a surprise one just surfaced in the form of a possible Silver Surfer movie.

This nugget was dropped in a larger piece on The Hollywood Reporter about Fox's plans for the future despite the possibility that business could pick up and shift to Disney's lot. According to sources, Fox is not worrying about Disney's possible involvement, and instead is "going 100 miles per hour" on development on projects such as the Doctor Doom movie and a secret Silver Surfer film. The THR report goes so far as to say that comic book creator Brian K. Vaughan -- whose award-winning credits include Y: The Last Man, Runaways and X-Men -- has been hired to pen a script for the film.

Fox went down this road before. The Silver Surfer, a cosmic being who usually serves as the herald of the world-eating villain Galactus, was a major part of the second Fantastic Four movie at Fox -- the kid-friendly one that starred Chris Evans as The Human Torch. It wasn't that long ago that comic-book blockbusters looked like this:

And it makes sense for Fox to continue to develop projects as if they were operating as their own standalone studio. There is no guarantee that Disney's deal to acquire 20th Century Fox will ultimately go through, so for now, it needs to be business as usual at Fox proper. In fact, a Fox insider tells THR:

We actually have way more in development and production in Marvel IP than at any point in the history of the studio. There's been zero slowdown on that front given Disney.

In addition to this potential Silver Surfer movie (which would be YEARS away, and not right around the corner), Fox has Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants on the release calendar. Channing Tatum's Gambit movie is still in active development (with a script due in March, reportedly), while Deadpool 2 is supposed to feed into an X-Force movie, that Drew Goddard might direct. Add to that mix the Doctor Doom movie that Noah Hawley allegedly is working on, and you can see that things are full steam ahead on the Fox side.

Would you be interested in a standalone Silver Surfer movie? Would the Fantastic Four need to be involved? The character held down countless stories in his own comics, so there should be plenty of material for a possible Surfer story. Vote in our poll below.

Aside from the Silver Surfer, the article stresses that right now, some six Marvel mutant properties are in development at Fox between 2019 and 2020, and that until the Disney/Fox merger goes

Anthony Mackie Calls His Marvel Future A Huge Challenge'

Anthony Mackie Calls His Marvel Future A Huge Challenge'

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in a fascinating place right now. Avengers: Endgame shattered expectations when it arrived in theaters two months ago, with a story deeply connected to the previous 21 installments of the franchise. It was a movie full of endings and beginnings, including a major twist when it came to the mantle of Captain America.

After Steve Rogers returned the Infinity Stones and Mjolnir to their homes within the timeline, he decided to live out his life with Peggy Carter in the past. In an instant Cap was an old man, and passed on the shield to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson/ Falcon. Mackie recently spoke to this exciting change for his signature character, saying:

I love Chris. Chris is an amazing Cap. And I feel like, what hes been able to do with that character, very few people have been able to do in any cinematic universe or span of films. Because hes played Cap for a lot of movies. To take that over, to be a part of that, the legacy of that, is a huge challenge. Its something where a lot of people are going to expect me to be Chris Evans in the same suit, but a black dude. And thats definitely not gonna happen.

Well, this is super exciting. Anthony Mackie understands the responsibility of playing Captain America, but is also determined not to simply do an impression of his predecessor. Sam Wilson isn't the same man as Steve Rogers, so his new mantle of Cap should affect them differently.

Anthony Mackie's comments come from his recent appearance at Celebrity Fan Fest, as captured by a fan video from the audience. Mackie fielded a number of questions from the audience during his appearance, and was able to discuss Falcon's character arc now that Endgame has been out and the spoiler ban has long passed.

Related: How Anthony Mackie Learned About Avengers: Endgame's Captain America Twist

While Sam Wilson spent the majority of Endgame as nothing but dust in the wind, he was teleported via portals to the epic final battle once Hulk snapped everyone back into existence. His "on your left" line was an epic start to that final sequence, as he was one of the first Avenger seen after returning to the world of the living.

If that wasn't enough, he was there for Captain America's grand finale. He was able to meet Steve Rogers as an old man, where Chris Evans' character handed Sam his vibranium shield and told him to try it on. The world got a new Cap, and it should be interesting to see how his tenure as Falcon influence the way he carries on the mantle of his friend.

Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now, and getting an extended cut coming to theaters. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
