Paul Bettanys Big Scene With Scarlet Witch In Infinity War Wasnt Easy To Film

Paul Bettanys Big Scene With Scarlet Witch In Infinity War Wasnt Easy To Film

Avengers: Infinity War was a huge movie with a lot of moving parts. While one would expect filming a movie like this would be difficult, Paul Bettany says his big scene was especially complicated. Much of the film is dedicated to trying to save his character of Vision, and the relationship he has with Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch. The actor admits that there was a lot of pressure riding on the pair, mostly thanks to the Russo Brothers, and they had trouble finding the best way to play the scene. According to Bettany...

Well it was about 100 degrees and we were really, really sweaty, and the Russo brothers ran over to us and went, 'So the entire beating heart of the movie is now on your shoulders. And then they went, 'roll the camera.' So we did it a couple of times and they said, 'OK, that's great, let's just improvise it now,' and you know I just sort of looked at Lizzy and she looks at me and I thought, 'I'm a robot, and you're a witch, how are we gonna do this?' We went off and just wrote some stuff together and then we came back in. You know, it's a lot in isolation.

While the majority of Avengers: Infinity War deals with massive action sequences on alien planets and gems that form the basis of existence, in the end, the story comes down to two characters who love each other being forced to confront a terrible decision. They've been fighting for the entire movie to prevent the Scarlet Witch from having to kill Vision as the only way to stop Thanos, but when the plan fails, she must do the unthinkable.

While the Russo Brothers certainly put a lot on the shoulders of Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen, they weren't actually wrong that "the entire beating heart" of the movie depended on them. If you're not emotionally invested in what happens to them, then the rest of it simply doesn't work. Of course, even Paul Bettany admits to MTV that getting an audience invested in the moment was difficult, because of all the fantastical elements going on that had the potential to take the audience out of the reality.

You know, it's a lot in isolation of the rest of the plot even. And you're purple. And you've got a jewel and your head. And she's going to destroy it. And you're imagining red things coming out of her fingers, yet you're also sort of trying to find some reality in all of this... I think we were both when it was done, kind of like, 'Oh, let's go home.

It sounds like the entire experience was exhausting for both actors. One can only imagine what the future has in store. While both Vision and Scarlet Witch appear to have died at the end of Avengers: Infinity War the fact is we simply have no idea what's really going to happen next. Will they be reunited in Avengers 4 in a moment as heartwarming as the previous scene was heartbreaking? We'll find out next may.

In this version, the filmmakers adapt this scene with their own MCU character. An old villain makes a return in Infinity War, but is voiced by a completely new character this time around.

Green Book Is 'Full Of Lies, According To Dr. Donald Shirley's Family

Green Book Is 'Full Of Lies, According To Dr. Donald Shirley's Family

Green Book has been earning some praise for its story and its performances, specifically by Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen. The latter plays a con artist and enforcer; the former plays a renowned musician who at one point travels through the south to perform when racial tensions are high. However, not everyone is happy with how the movie plays out.

Doctor Shirley's family was not consulted during the making of Green Book. Instead, the movie is mostly told through the perspective of Tony Vallelonga based on stories from his son Nick, who co-wrote the movie. Donald Shirley's family has spoken out several times, including to 1A Movie Club, recounting that the story is "full of lies."

His family in particular seems to not enjoy the fact that Dr. Donald Shirley seems to be a lonely guy in the movie-- the type of guy who was intelligent, careful and creative but who didn't always identify with his own culture. According to journalist Joshua Johnson, who spoke with Donald Shirley's last living brother Maurice Shirley,

He refuses to see the film because it is, in his words, 'full of lies.' He also said that, unlike in the film, Dr. Shirley was not estranged from his family or the black community. He says he had definitely eaten fried chicken before.

In addition, Dr. Shirley reportedly kept his relationships professional, so the movie took some creative license when it came to the friendship between the two men. In fact, the family alleges Tony Lip was eventually fired and quickly during the period of time in question due to his lack of professional behavior (which is shown in the film). Dr. Shirley reportedly was notorious for firing employees, including members of his own trio.

It wasn't so long ago that Dr. Donald Shirley was alive and had been asked to have his life story told. He reportedly was against the idea, as it took his story out of his hands. Edwin Shirley III told Shadow and Act:

I remember suggesting to him that it might be a good idea, 'you can be involved [with the making of the film],' and he just flatly said, 'No, absolutely not. I don't want to have any part of that.' God knows, this is the reason that he never wanted to have his life portrayed on screen. I now understand why, and I feel terrible that I was actually trying to urge him to do this in the 1980s, because everything that he objected to back then has come true now.

Often when biopics come out they are riddled with factual inaccuracies. This happened very recently with another music-oriented biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. That movie amped up drama within the band and with the record label. It also sped up the timeline of Freddy Mercury's AIDS diagnosis.

Therefore, learning that perhaps Tony Vallelonga and Donald Shirley maybe weren't the best of pals as the movie implies would not be a huge shocker. Cutting out members of Shirley's family for dramatic effect to make that story work would be the logical next step in order to make the movie's friendship story work, even if it wasn't true to character for Dr. Donald Shirley. But as is the case with many biopic movies, learning the whole truth may require some research.

The problem may stem from the fact that Tony Vallelonga's son, Nick, has claimed "everything in the film is true." The movie is mostly told from the perspective of Tony Lip and how he saw the series of events, but that hasn't stopped members of Donald Shirley's family from calling it factually inaccurate.

Mahershala Ali, who stars in the movie, has already spoken to the remaining members of Donald Shirley's family, letting them know that he did the best he could with the material he had to work with.

Overall, Green Book has earned mostly good reviews, although it has been called out for de-complicating race relations in the south during the period. We'll have to wait and see if it's still in the conversation when the Oscars roll around. Whether or not the film is one of your favorites this awards season, it looks as if you may want to take the story with a grain of salt.

Rami Malek Was Nervous To Wear One Revealing Bohemian Rhapsody Costume

Rami Malek Was Nervous To Wear One Revealing Bohemian Rhapsody Costume

One must be fearless to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury -- a lesson Bohemian Rhapsody actor Rami Malek learned quickly after he was cast in the role. Malek's incredible transformation into the rock icon included plenty of preparation on his part. This included wearing some bold fashion statements inspired by Freddie's on-stage wardrobe -- one of which that Malek was a bit timid to put on at first. In his words:

There was one thing I was concerned wearing, and that was the leotard. There's a harlequin one, but the one I was worried about the most was the sequin one because it really leaves nothing to the imagination. Not only are you walking out there basically naked, but then you have to strut on stage with the utmost confidence. At one point, you just have to say, 'Well, you gotta do it. If you're going to emulate him, there is no fear on stage.'

Rami Malek clearly went all in to play Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, and it shows through his transformative performance in the role. During his interview with The Wrap, the actor said by the end of the film he was so comfortable with Freddie's wardrobe that he asked the costume designer if he could have a replica of the leotard. He ordered it in ruby red specifically.

On top of wearing Freddie Mercury's vibrant wardrobe, Rami Malek also wore fake teeth for the film, worked with a movement coach to mirror the icon's mannerisms, took singing and piano lessons, and went on a crazy exercise and diet routine. Yep, he was all in.

Coming right off his stiff and socially awkward character on the television series Mr. Robot, Rami Malek did a complete 180 from what audiences know he can do in Bohemian Rhapsody, including reenacting a 22-minute sequence of Queen's Live Aid concert in 1985. He became so believable as Freddie that the remaining members of Queen who were collaborators on the film became convinced and completely support his iteration of their late band member.

Queen were reluctantly working with filmmakers for almost a decade on Bohemian Rhapsody to properly pay tribute to Freddie Mercury and the rest of the band's legacy. When Rami Malek came along, the band saw a sparkle of Freddie in his eye -- a key component to the film being believable at all.

The intense role transformation for Rami Malek and the long filmmaking process for Queen has finally paid off, since the film has passed $600 million at the worldwide box office and the film has already been nominated for two Golden Globes. The film was recognized for the Best Picture and Best Actor in the drama category, all much to the praise of Malek's decision to completely become the killer queen Freddie Mercury will always be remembered as.
